Sqoot

Sqoot is my response to the 'Social Insurance' brief set by the RSA for their annual Student Design Awards for which I was awarded joint first prize. Two major issues faced by young drivers today are exorbitant insurance premiums and a high probability of being involved in a car accident. Sqoot is a pay-as-you-go service for students that rewards safe and considerate driving. It is based on a graduated licence scheme run in conjunction with the NUS. An NUS card would double as a Sqoot licence and through the existing NUS network, would connect members across the UK through social and online media. Sqoot provides students with a safe and affordable alternative to owning a car and provides insurers with a comprehensive way of risk profiling young drivers.

Two major issues faced by young drivers today are exorbitant insurance premiums and a high probability of being involved in a car accident. Sqoot proactively addresses these issues in a way that benefits both students and insurance companies.

Sqoot is a pay-as-you-go service for students that rewards safe and considerate driving. It is based on a graduated licence scheme run in conjunction with the National Union of Students. An NUS card would double as a Sqoot licence and through the existing NUS network, would connect members across the UK through social and online media. This service is completely mobile.

Sqoot is based on three membership levels based on experience. This gives members complete control over over how and when they use the service and how much they benefit from it. It utilises a flexible points-based system that encourages and rewards safe driving. By promoting local incentive schemes, it helps to support businesses and charities and opens up employment opportunities to students that would otherwise have been out of their reach.

Points are collected or deducted throughout a student's membership and can ultimately be redeemed against substantial insurance discounts. Points are awarded for safe and considerate driving and can be deducted for inconsiderate or dangerous driving. Existing telematic and mobile technology are used to track and prevent dangerous driving.

Sqoot provides students with a safe and affordable alternative to owning a car and provides insurers with a comprehensive way of risk profiling young drivers.
